| Arizona Citizen Corps Outstanding Achievement Awards |

| The Arizona
State Citizen Corps Council is proud to recognize the following
organizations through the first Arizona Citizen Corps Outstanding
Achievement Awards. Award winners were announced during the 2006 Annual Conference June 14-15, 2006 at the
San Marcos Resort in Chandler, AZ. |

1st
Place: White Mountain CERT Team
The White Mountain CERT team trained both the first Civil Air Patrol
team (the third in the nation) and the first school emergency response
team in the state of Arizona, and their team members have been
deployed by FEMA during the last two hurricane seasons. Training,
in addition to basic CERT, includes State Search and rescue, National
weather service severe weather spotter training, and wilderness first
aid and survival. |

2nd
Place: Green Valley Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers (SAV)
SAV members provide business I.D. programs, crime prevention home
checks, Elderly Drivers Evaluation programs, Citizen Care and Alzheimer
patient monitoring, public assistance in Mall Patrols, and bailiff
duties at the Justice Court building. They and maintain their own fleet
of 10 vehicles plus a 68 foot Command Post Vehicle. |

3rd
Place: Citizen Corps Council for Homeland Security of Southern
Arizona, City of Tucson
CECC (Citizens Emergency Communication Corps) was born out of the need
to keep in contact with CERT members during emergencies. A
partnership has recently been established with The RACES (Ham radio
operators) to set up a complete communication system connecting CERT
teams within neighborhoods, as well as rural CERT teams, to County
Emergency Centers and Incident Command Centers. |

Honorable Mention: Maricopa County Central Region Citizen Corps
Council
The ACRCCC formally came into being on December 19, 2003, and a total of
12 local and 3 tribal Citizen Corps councils have been formed under it.
The Arizona Central Region Citizen Corps Council, under the guidance of
Keith Lansbery, has established itself as an extremely effective
organization for the coordination of volunteer efforts in response to
disasters and other events affecting Maricopa County. |

Honorable Mention: Yavapai County Medical Reserve Corps
The Yavapai County
MRC deployed 41 volunteers to assist with Hurricane Katrina response
efforts and was among the first in the nation to deploy. Volunteers
received just-in-time training during their participation in a '06
smallpox POD exercise, and have assisted with seasonal flu clinics and
other public health activities. Nearly half of the 850 MRC volunteers
have medical qualifications and backgrounds. |
